The Australia First Party (AFP). While I do not pretend to agree with anything they have to say, I believe that labeling them ‘extremists’ is a little… well, extreme. Extremism refers to beliefs or acts which go against what is considered to be the general moral standards of a community. On the other hand, activism refers to action, used in an attempt to prompt change. It is generally assumed that activists are those fighting for what’s right.
When we think of activism, we picture (marijuana smoking) hippies chained to trees, and women burning their bras for the sake of women’s rights. If you want to support the AFP, I think you may want to consider some professional help, but that’s your choice. If you want to think of them as extremists, and horrible people who should be behind bars, I would agree slightly more, but again, that’s not my belief. I see the AFP as activists. I just don’t agree with what they’re fighting for. On the AFP website you find a list of their policies listed in their ‘constitution and rules section’. Most of it is the normal political crap, with a bit of spin, saying the boring crap that everyone wants to hear, even though we know that they have no intention of seeing it through. Then we find two particular intentions of the party that I can only pray they have no intention of following through.
Reduce and Limit Immigration
- Immigration mistakes can be big long term mistakes. Immigration policy must take into account social cohesion, employment opportunities, urbanisation and environmental issues.
Abolish Multiculturalism - End the divisive, government funded and institutionalised policy of multiculturalism.
Ah, if only it were illegal to be a racist moron. I even found a flyer which justified the actions of Australian’s in the Cronulla riot in 2005. I was reading it skeptically, mocking the AFP for being so stupid that they actually believe that crap, until I read something that actually amused me.
Australia is not a society of haters – at least, not yet; unless Multiculturalism eventually makes us that way.
Um, what? At some point during this blog, I have changed my mind. Initially I thought that the AFP were not extremists, but misguided activists. I’m now tempted to argue that they’re just misguided morons. After all, if exposure, even habituation, to those who are different to us, whether it be race, gender, or views on multiculturalism, is the key to social cohesion, then what could possibly convince the AFP that a White Australia policy is the best thing for a well adjusted, accepting society. I also wonder what they propose to do with the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander population. Is it time to bring back camps in an attempt to sell them off as slaves, and breed the rest out? The AFP want to stop other people from coming here? They’re the group I think we’ve run out of space for. Seriously, I thought we’d progressed past being racist jerks, at least to that extent.
I’m also interested to hear where they think that white Australians come from. As far as a nation goes, you don’t get much younger. We’re the infants, grabbing at the heels of Europeans. Yes, that’s right. We came from other places too, then arrested for theft or whatever other crime takes your interest, then stuffed on a boat and here we are. We are a nation descendant from convicts. Australia was Britain’s dumping ground. We are the shit no one else wanted, and the AFP think that they can discriminate?
Earlier, I defined extremism as beliefs or acts which go against what is considered to be the general moral standards of a community. I don’t believe that the AFP fit in to this category based on one missing element. Power. Their beliefs are too radical for them to ever be considered a serious contender for power. The serious threat of extremist groups come from the following. Our government is fight between the Labor and Liberal parties. Sure, the Greens sneak in and try to save the world, but that’s about it. In my opinion, we face a bigger threat with the Family First party bringing back the burning of lesbians… I mean witches, or the Australian Sex Party banning R rated films and legalising late term abortion and heroin. Don’t even get me started on that one.
The AFP do not seem to use the internet to recruit new members to the dark side. Yes, they describe their radical policies on their website, and if you’re that committed to being a racist, you can even get their newsletter, but I argue that their website is not a soul-sucking sign up board for the easily corrupted. At least, it does this no more than other political parties.
